mojocasterman January 9th, 2006, 12:44 PM So I have wicked GAS for the US Custom Shop Muddy Waters Tele. I see one on eBay come regularly for auction, asking price of $3300, that still has to receive a bid. It's the fourth time - to my knowledge - that it has been listed on eBay. Current listing is here:

(And no, I am not the seller nor do I have anything to do with them. I am just a frustrated guy who can't afford it ;) )
There was another seller, a music store in Chicago, who listed a similar MW Tele, for $2000+ several times. It didn't sell either.
Anyone here has ever played/owned one of thsoe beauties? Any feedback? Thanks :)

Excellent
Very clean showing little or no signs of use.
:o :o
mojocasterman January 9th, 2006, 01:11 PM ha ha, well it *is* relic'ed at the Fender Custom Shop, so it's hard to tell, right? :)
yegbert January 9th, 2006, 01:40 PM Did Fender make a Muddy Waters Tele in the Custom Shop? And if so did they relic it?
mojocasterman January 9th, 2006, 01:42 PM yes to both questions. It was a limited run in or around 2000, and I have been lusting for one ever since.

It wasn't a 'relic' model per se but rather a tribute model that tried to replicate Muddy's Tele in its current state (similar to the recent CS SRV #1 Strat run). Here's a photo and some info (http://www.harmony-central.com/Events/WNAMM00/Fender/Muddy-Waters-Tele.html[/url) from Harmony Central.

Joe M January 9th, 2006, 04:23 PM mojocasterman,
I hope you know that the seller of that guitar is Guitar Center and that most of their auctions are quite a bit higher than "normal" ones. I remember seeing one of those in a local store when they first came out. Seems like the original price was less than what GC wants for this one. Maybe they've appreciated already. It was a cool guitar.....
mojocasterman January 9th, 2006, 04:32 PM thanks for the hint. As I said, it was listed by another music store in Chicago for $2000+ and didn't sell either, so I did figure out that the $3300 was slightly inflated ;)

mojocasterman January 9th, 2006, 04:46 PM Yours? :)
Blueblood January 9th, 2006, 05:24 PM This was a purchase made by J. Walk (a member of the FDP at the time) a few years back. It was he that got me started on the appreciation of the Muddy's. I believe he did pay around $3,000. for this new relic.
I've had these images on my hard drive and bring them up once in awhile to lust...
mojocasterman January 9th, 2006, 08:58 PM well he's a lucky bloke, and thanks for sharing the pics. I have got to get me one of those!

Yes, the Custom Shop made 100 Muddy teles, they were supposed to be replicas of Muddy's guitar, and were heavily reliced.
