Truss rod problems - help!

I just got invited to play bass in a band. What the heck, sez I, I'll do it.

So I break out my old bass. It's the first electric I got - back years ago. So here's the thing...

The hex hole at the top of the truss rod (adjustable at the headstock) is stripped out badly. This is unfortunately the result of not knowing what the heck I was doing back when I got this thing. Oh well, that's how we learn right? It's no huge loss either way, as this thing was the cheapest bass Ibanez made at the time, and I don't think they make one this cheap now...

It's the sentimental value though... If there's anything I can do to to save it, I'd like to know.

Any pointers?

Hey Ben, Any good repair shop should be able to remove the stripped nut and install a new one. New nuts are REALLY cheap although the labor will probably get you. Check out StewMac. They have all sorts of replacement truss nuts. Getting the old one out will be the key! Good luck with the new bassy gig!
