Nut replacement

How scary is it to replace a nut?
I've done it a few times by just putting a block of wood against the old nut and breaking it loose...but never on a Fender where it's 'sandwiched' in.
How easy is it to remove a chunk of wood with the nut?

You'll be pretty safe if you first score the finish, on both sides of the nut w/ an X-acto knife..carefully...and then take a small nail punch, and tap it out Gently from the Bass side...Works for me. :D

My 2 cents:
A little heat from a hair dryer will soften the glue and make removal a little easier.
