Anyone else see this last night on tbs? Steve Martin on banjo and Tom Hanks on guitar. I'm not a fan of bluegrass, but it was cool.

I've never been a fan of SM. Never 'got' him. Tom Hanks best comedy days are gone though. Bosom Buddies, The Money Pit, Nothing In Common were excellent laughers with some serious content but everything else seems to be just, well.. too dramatic. Great actor but I wish he'd be more funny.

Tom Hanks plays guitar? I didn't know--that's pretty cool.

Hey Joel,
When TH did the Ladykillers, he had a mandolin made for him by Danny Ferrington, who (DF) made all the instruments in that movie.
I also heard him in an interview discussing that pop band movie (Thing You Do?), he said they progress from Silvertones and Dano's to Fenders and Gibson as the band becomes successful. Nice touch.

They played rhythm on a pair of acoustic guitars and kept up with Steve Martin on an uptempo bluegrass instrumental he'd written. The second tune was one of Idle's (I forget the name, but it was about our planet and solar system; don't recall if it was from his Monty Python days or after.) and was equally enjoyable.

It's called The Galaxy Song and was co-written by Idle. I thought it sounded familiar, Clint Black sang it on his Live By Request show on A&E. It was included on Clint's D'lectrified album.

They should make an album. Tom Hanks plays mandolin too? I had no idea that he even plays guitar.

Sounds like a one-man-band: Tom can play piano, drums, violin (which he learned for his role in "The Man With One Red Shoe") and the guitar. He wrote many of the incidental tracks/songs for "That Thing You Do!"
