Better at low volumes - Distortion or Overdrive?

Hi,

I have a gig where the owner wants rocking music wants the volume low for the people eating dinner. What's better for these situations? I'm assuming distortion as overdrives usually require driving the amp.

Opinions?

you could try a weber mass attenuator... and your usual set-up

or

if you need more hair try a rat and keep the distortion at just below 10 o'clock.

or get a liddle amp like one of those half watt jobbies.
