tjalla August 15th, 2005, 04:03 PM My dad always said "breath normally" when making decisions, esp purchases... well I was hyperventillating, and having a minor cardiac arrest as I watched the seconds tick down...

Now, I'm just bracing myself for the exact shipping cost from the US to Australia (yikes!). I think I got it at a good price (US$380), even tho the trem apparently doesn't work. I'm guessing I can get it fixed. But it comes with the original Jensen P15N too!
Any one here with experience with this amp? a 30w, 6L6-powered, 1x15" rig is something I'd been lusting over for a while. Then I do a "off the cuff" search, and the M-15 auction had 25min to go!
Its 3am here now... won't be getting much sleep tnt! I'm too amped. Literally!

Oldschoolwax August 16th, 2005, 01:23 PM Cool, should be fun! I have a similar Jensen in my G15, sounds great!

by the looks of the picture thats a ceramic 15. The P15n is an alnico magnet. These are great amps and easy to work on..the match of octal preamps to the tube output stage reall is sweet

tjalla August 16th, 2005, 02:34 PM I didn't look hard nuff... thot I was lookin' at a bell cover. Prob a good thing tho, as I still have my Weber P15N boxed up, so I'll be able to experiement with ceramic vs alnico. Seller hasn't replied since the auction end, a bit odd, but I'll email him again tmr.
My ceriatone tweed deluxe clone has to go up on the chopping block now tho... ah well :?
Raymond August 16th, 2005, 05:04 PM Cool!!!! I'm such a sucker for Ampegs....

Just one comment... The auction says he ships to N & S America and Europe. Does he know you are in Oz????
I hope you get it soon.
Poppatwang August 16th, 2005, 06:13 PM And six input jacks!
Oldschoolwax August 16th, 2005, 06:53 PM I thought bell too... Well, see how it sounds, I'm sure you'll be happy! Let us know when it lands!
Tim Armstrong August 16th, 2005, 07:03 PM Hey Trev, if you have any problems with the seller regarding shipping, I'd be glad to help out. I've sent a couple of amps to Oz to a friend of mine...
Cheers, Tim
tjalla August 17th, 2005, 04:07 PM The seller's alright with the fact I'm in Oz, but neither of us forsaw the ASTRONOMICAL shipping costs to Aust. Its not so much the weight, that's ok - but we didn't realise it exceeded dimension limitations with USPS.
Only Fedex/UPS/DHL will take it, but they charge almost double!
The seller and I seem to have an agreement that shouldn't result in a bad outcome or -ve feedback. He's an understanding chap - but I don't think I'll be pluggin' into this amp afterall
Will update here once its finalised...
Cheers,
Trevor
Charlie Bernstein August 17th, 2005, 04:54 PM mine's a '62. the tremolo doesn't work on mine either, but i have an outboard, so who cares?
fat, musical, 3-d sound at pretty low volume. actually, i'd be surprised if it's 30-watts - mine seems to be about 20. i like to brag that i have the world's heaviest 20-watt amp.
the original speaker is in a box, and the amp now carries a 50-watt weber alnico classic (aka 15a150?) that i think i found here on the buy-sell page. too heavy-duty to break up much, but fat, fat, fat! a diva.
i liked the original speaker a lot, but it's so old, i figured it was due to blow any day - which would blow the resale value of the whole amp. so i just jumped at the first nice speaker deal i ran into.
congrats - you landed a cool amp! i know you're going to have a great time with it.
tjalla August 17th, 2005, 05:27 PM See my post above yours...
In a way tho, its good to know the M15 isn't quite 30w - I wanted it to replace a 20w amp.
I still have a P15N sitting around, so I'll think of another project soon
Glad you diggin' yours dude! 8)
Cheers,
Trevor
Pierce August 18th, 2005, 06:39 AM just showed up in a box I could laydown in...
the actuall amp is smaller than say a super reverb but a little thicker. NICE amp though
tjalla August 18th, 2005, 01:59 PM DHL - US$442.16
UPS - US$383.16
FedEx - US$372.30
Lesson learnt. No amps from the US.

I assume you mean Surface (slowboat) shipping... again, the problem is that the boxed dimensions are exceeded. The seller took the package to the Post Office, they didn't want to touch it...
The seller seems happy to let it go the 2nd highest bidder, no -ve feedback (in fact he left +ve feedback for my prompt communication and my suggested offers to rectify situation). I think I'll be glad its ended like this. Could have been much worse!
I think Dad was right... breath first, act later!
