flying July 10th, 2005, 09:54 PM I have had my Suhr for all of 4 days & I know you usually wait a few weeks to see if it is really *the* one.
But I gotta tell you guys this Strat plays itself.
In fact the first hour I had it I felt that maybe it was too perfect. Playing the blues I always felt you had to kinda fight the guitar make it sqeel here & there. But after a few days I try to play my other gits ( homebuilt tele & Strat ) & just go back to the Suhr.
I don't know if it is the Plek job plus the Feinten system or what. Or maybe the satin smooth feels like bare wood neck? I dunno but man this thing makes playing so easy. Both Strumming & picking.
The only thing I wish.(maybe) is that I found one with the 1088 bridge. Not because this one is bad....heck it stays in perfect tune no matter what I do with the trem. But because the arm is just a bit longer than a stock Fender & is taking some time to get use to.
Other than that no complaints. The pups V60lp's sound great too. Anyway if you get a chance to try one of these do so ;)

Mark Davis July 11th, 2005, 01:06 AM When you find one that offers no playing resistance your there.
The plek has alot to do with it as does Johns great work his necks are like the Lentz perfection.
Roel from Holland July 11th, 2005, 12:40 PM Great guitar. Those 60LP's are fantastic pickups. My next guitar will be a Suhr-Strat as well.
Sarge July 13th, 2005, 08:41 AM I've heard nothing but good things about Suhrs. Are their guitars equal in craftsmanship......I mean the same quality reguardless of model? While most Fenders are affordable....Suhrs are gonna' cost you some $$$$ since I don't see used ones for sale often. Are they that much better in quality, tone and worth the price tag? I'm curious as I've never had the oppertunity to purchase one.
flying July 13th, 2005, 01:06 PM Sarge..
I had the same questions as you.
After researching it for quite awhile the fact that they all seem equally good is what got me to buy one. Sight unseen! I had never even seen one in person ever.
Price wise they are really not bad either.
If you watch ebay or check some shops on the web for used. You can find them for 1/2 retail.
I just saw a nice Tele go on Ebay yesterday for 12 I think it was.
But in any case.....You know a really good parts guitar is running 8-13+ just in parts.
The EJ Strat is 16 or 13-14 if you get a great deal. The CS stuff is way over the top price wise if you want the same quality as a Suhr. Even then I have heard of hit & miss with the CS.
I tell you I am in total awe of this guitar. I will be looking (already started) for a Tele from Suhr too.
I have had so many guitars over the years & thinking back I could have bought 10+ Suhrs by now. I came to the conclusion it is better to have one great guitar rather than 3 or 4 good guitars.
Raymond July 15th, 2005, 03:41 PM This is my favorite pic but because of the amps!!! You're killing me here...

Thanks Raymond ;)
Actually I left the newest member of the family out. This is a Gilmore Jr.
A nice 1/2 watt pure tube sounding head I just finished the other night.
That 73 SFDR is still one of my favorites though.
I just sent the chassis to David Allen & he went over it & did caps etc. I can hardly wait for it to return. I just sent it Monday & it will be back already this Monday. David is fast ;)

lzstones July 16th, 2005, 02:14 AM whats the difference between Pensa and Suhr? I really want a Pensa but so expensive. Knopfler uses them, and also has Pensa-Suhrs. Very similar im guessing?

Here is a quote from his page
John started his building career some 30 years ago in New Jersey. Searching for the perfect tone during his bar band days, he began building his own instruments.
In the early 80's John started working for Rudy Pensa at Rudy's Music Stop in NYC. It was during this time that the "Pensa-Suhr" guitars were born. John built guitars under the "Pensa-Suhr" name for Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, Lou Reed, Bill Connors, Steve Stevens, Reb Beach, Pat Thrall, Little Steven, Victor Bailey Pensa-Suhr Bass, Chuck Loeb, Eddie Martinez (Robert Palmer) and many others.
With an obsession for tube amp design, John left NYC to work with Robert Bradshaw in 91' and designed the CAA 3+ tube pre-amp and CAA OD100 amp with Robert Bradshaw. Four years later John felt his original calling and accepted a job as Senior Master Builder at the Fender Custom Shop. There he built custom guitars to order and was involved in R&D for new product development. His clients included and still include Michael Landau, Scott Henderson and Peter Frampton.
Making his true dream a reality, John Suhr has now opened up his own small factory building custom guitars to order.

I have been on the look out for the Suhr Tele starting the day after I got the Suhr Strat.
Wow nice Tele you got there too!
Hey how do you like that Mini Z?
I was thinking about that amp but decided to give the Gilmore a try.
zane July 17th, 2005, 08:08 PM The Mini-Z is a cool amp. Purty clean up tp about 11:00, then the hair really starts to grow...have you heard the sound clips Buddy Whittington did for the Z web site? KILLER !
Go down to the bottom of the page:
http://www.drzamps.com/miniz.html
Buddy used 3 different guitars the day he recorded those clips...his new model Lentz, a '67 ES-335,& a '56 Les Paul TV...the Mini sounded great with all 3
