I stayed home from church sick, and am checking them out. So far I've listened to "Tim McGraw's Greatest Hits" (better than I expected) and "Don't Rock the Jukebox", by Alan Jackson (ironically, that song really rocks, IMO). Right now, I'm listening to something by Eric Clapton called "Pilgrim". I never heard of it before. It's rather smooth jazzy sounding. Not bad, but a little different from most of Eric's stuff. I may have to put on some T-Bone Walker next to offset it. Here, Nelson is working with an octet, and the compositons are by Nelson, Johnny Hodges, Dave Brubeck, Neal Hefti, and Count Basie/Jimmy Rushing. Orchestration/arranging is by Mr. Nelson. This record is perhaps a bit more conventional than it's predecessor, but it contains some great playing. The liner notes, by George Hoefer, calls it "Blues for Thinking Men", and maybe that's what it is..?
