New stuff....The Kings of Leon. I have all four of their cds. The first two have a rawer punk edge to them. Then the third one is a little more polished and the songs are more arranged in the sense of more controlled, I guess. The fourth one, the one that's more polished and mature is the one that's opened the door to the mainstream here in Canada and the USA. Funny, how a band from Tennessee is more poplular in the UK then their own country, the USA. They are so amazing and they have a different sound. The one thing I hate is when the radio stations only play the one song that's the single. I mean every song on their last CD has single written all over it. It is truly a great, great CD. They're getting better known over on this side of the pond but it's sad that Canada and their own country just aren't getting it. I'm also diggin' the Black Keys. I'm currently listening (in surround sound) to Forest Cello - the birds are chirping, the waters, whether stream or lake are gurgling or lapping, the rain is falling, the thunder is loud, ducks quack, loons do their thing, etc. etc. etc. I love this kind of stuff to take my mind off of winter. I hope they get into a video/dvd thing down the road. The recordings are very high quality. tbp0701 January 25th, 2009, 06:12 PM Norah Jones' Not too Late. I've heard her music before, of course, and liked it, but I haven't listened too long or closely, because it was a little too mellow for me. But at the library today, I grabbed a bunch of stuff, including this. What can I say, her voice is spectacular, the band nearly perfect, and right now, on a cold, dreary January Sunday afternoon, as I feel very alone and am pondering a lot of tough things, it's perfect. maestrovert January 25th, 2009, 07:45 PM James Taylor: Sweet Baby James The Association: Just The Right Sound; The Association Anthology The Edgar Winter Group: They Only Come Out At Night George Benson: Breezin' Larry Carlton & Steve Lukather: No Substitutions Capel January 25th, 2009, 07:57 PM Got "Shine a light" on DVD (xmas pressie, thanks kids!) playing in the background, about to overhaul my PA rack & need some inspiration while doing it! mudshark January 25th, 2009, 07:58 PM Bob Dylan - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan boris bubbanov January 25th, 2009, 11:29 PM Surrealistic Pillow Jefferson Airplane She Has Funny Cars. mudbean January 26th, 2009, 12:18 AM Just bought "Singles Collection, 1966-1973" by Status Quo ... almost 40 tracks for 9 bux - bought it from Rhapsody with Coke Rewards points, too, so no cash out of pocket. Will give that a spin in the car this week, between gorging myself on drum track roughs from our session last weekend. mud mudbean January 26th, 2009, 12:22 AM Norah Jones ... My current obssession over the last couple of days has been Rodney Crowell's The Houston Kid. Such a great storyteller with a pure, dry voice, and I love the production on this record. It's mostly been a record I've enjoyed for my own entertainment, although I've been toying around with in my head an arrangement of "U Don't Know How Much I Hate U". What a great song with killer textures. I'm afraid the other record in current rotation over the last few days is a benchmark staple that I'm revisiting for the gazillionth time - Miles Davis' Kind of Blue. I'm doing some transcribing on "Freddie the Freeloader", so I've been listening to this one off and on quite a bit. dogggone February 18th, 2009, 06:28 AM Leo Kottke "Instrumentals The Best Of The Capital Years" porkadon February 18th, 2009, 06:54 AM Might as well chime in.
