A Tale of Two Teles!

My summer project...things are too crazy for me to be able to take a normal vacation, so I'm taking a few mini partscaster vacations instead. Being doing repairs and such for years, and playing professionally, but never tried assembling a complete guitar before. I'm posting my progress on my website: www.jayscottguitar.com, in the blog section.

Highlights: white pine and swamp ash bodies from Clearfork Designs, Allparts TRO-W necks (rosewood fretboards, 1 11/16 wide at the nut). Barden and Glendale bridges. One guitar will be an Esquire-type and that will get my trusty old '55 Tele bridge (an actual old one) pickup. Bill Lawrence Micro-coils in the other one. Gotoh vintage style tuners, Electrosocket jack cups, and various genuine Fender parts elsewhere.

My angle on this (gotta have an angle!) is to explore, very unscientifically, what will happen with the sound when I use lightweight (that's 4 lbs. or under to me) bodies and a very thin (five coats or so) Tru-Oil finish.

I'll try to put up a couple of photos here, once I figure out how to do that.

The first five parts of my assembly project are up at my website, www.jayscottguitar.com, in the blog. Allparts, Clearfork Designs, Stew-Mac, Joe Barden, and Tru-Oil in the mix so far, plus no major screw-ups! I'm proud of that.

Part 6 is up now. Had to solve a problem or two in this episode, but it has a happy ending! At www.jayscottguitar.com.
