Jakedog June 28th, 2005, 10:59 AM WARNING: MAKE SURE YOUR SITTING DOWN, THIS MAY CAUSE SEVERE ANXIETY, AND IN SOME RARE CASES, MAY CAUSE A LOSS OF CONCIOUSNESS.
Go to www.davesguitar.com
Click on inventory, and scroll down to used Fender. The first listing will knock your freakin' socks off. I haven't seen a strat like this in YEARS. I am sweating just looking at it. Does anybody have 28K I can borrow indefinitely?

OK what'd I do wrong?
JohnK24 June 29th, 2005, 08:57 PM not for $27000...I'd rather have someone like Bill Crook put together modern pieces and relic it for under $3000 and have a fine playing and sounding instrument. I don't get the ridiculous prices these vintage guitars are going for...it's wood and steel and plastic and really can't sound any better than a guitar assembled from today's parts by a fine luthier.
ymmv,

SinnerBoy61 June 29th, 2005, 09:24 PM how much do you think a medical facility would pay for a good leg? ;)
Just kiddin of course.

Maybe so, but if a new guitar could talk, it would say "huh?" If that '55 could talk, it would tell stories that would make you laugh, cry, and probably scare the pants off you to boot. There is no substitute for actual history, and the mojo that comes with being played for that long. When I see a mint condition vintage guitar, I don't even want to touch it, because a mint condition guitar never got played, and usually, it's because it was a dog. When I see a guitar that looks like that '55, I HAVE TO PLAY IT. Because if it looks like that, it means somebody loved it enough to never put it down, for fifty years. And if they wanted to play it that badly, there must be a reason. I have bee very fortunate in my life, and have gotten to play many, many, 50's era Fenders. The ones that are always the best playing and best sounding examples, are the ones that look like ol' '55 there.
And on the price issue, I don't have the money for a guitar like that, but if I did, I'd buy it in a heartbeat, I'd be insane not to. In another 5 or 6 years, it will double in value at least. try getting a 401 K to do that.

genelovesjez June 30th, 2005, 02:23 PM I dunno - it looks like it could use a fresh coat of paint. For that kind of money, I would insist they throw in a paint job.

AND a new cover for that middle pickup! :D
jeffreyk51 June 30th, 2005, 04:46 PM Unfortunately many of these vintage guitars do not sound or play well, that is the reason they are for sale and constantly changing hands. I have a 68' all original Strat that is in perfect condition but does not sound or play anywhere near my Fiesta Red Custom Shop 60' Closet Classic Strat. Not even close. I picked this CS Strat up at Guitar Center without a C of A for a steal. I eventually sent away to Fender, through Guitar Center, for a duplicate and in 4 weeks and $31, I received a new C of A. I have seen 68' Strats now selling for $15,000+. That is for a piece of ****** bad sounding Strat. This vintage thing is completely out of hand. Just my opinion.

_tom_ July 1st, 2005, 03:08 PM to be honest I think that looks crap. But then I've never really liked strats, especially in sunburst...
Bill July 1st, 2005, 03:49 PM I'm 9,000 miles away from my '56, and you're really making me miss it. Thanks.
