andrewsadlon August 14th, 2012, 10:38 PM Just acquired my first Crybaby wah pedal. Never used one before. Obviously, I know HOW it works, and how to work it... But apparently (after only messing with it for 15 mins) my foot doesn't work as in-sync with my hands as I thought it would:) My foot likes to apply it with a quick-sweep, almost "vibrato" type motion. Can anyone give any advice on techniques/uses? Just looking for some tips and pointers on getting my foot to work with my hands. Thankfully I have all day tomorrow to play around with it.
mal paso August 14th, 2012, 10:49 PM I'm sure someone will have better advice, but
It's not easy! You just gotta practice. It's like patting your head and rubbing yer belly at the same time! It'll come to you, it just takes some time.
I mean, you've got your hands doing two completely different things. Not to mention your brain and your heart. And now you've got your feet involved?
How isn't that crazy?
I promise you'll have it down within a week as long as you practice, and maybe check out some Youtube vids.

Drummers are crazy.
The wah pedal takes a little time to get used to. Give it a week and you'll be able to use it perfectly well.
mal paso August 14th, 2012, 11:04 PM Haha! Drummers are crazy in a good way!

andrewsadlon August 15th, 2012, 12:02 AM Hah thanks guys. Figured it would come with time:)
AngelStrummer August 15th, 2012, 08:06 AM Practice, repetition, as ever.
It's weird, because these kind of things are very subjective. I took to the wah within minutes, whilst I tried playing harmonica and guitar together a' la Neil Young and could not get anywhere at all.
greggorypeccary August 15th, 2012, 08:29 AM If it takes you a week to figure out a wah, you may have some motor skill issues. :)
But when you do figure it out, don't be that guy at the jam who hits it on every solo.

I'm a fast learner, hopefully I'll have it down by the end of the day
I don't plan on it! Just wanted it for fun and for some of the songs my band covers.
Otis Funkmeyer August 15th, 2012, 09:19 AM Ever tap your foot to the beat while you play or listen to music? It should not be too different than that.
The easy way to practice that is to rock it back and forth in time as you practice scales or finger exercises along with a metronome.
Using it in a more expressive way (not just in time with the beat) will take more coordination and practice, but just start with repeating a few simple licks and it will come to you eventually.
Sometimes I actually "wah" with my mouth along with my foot and that helps, kind of like singing along to your solo, George Benson style.

Hey now, that was freaking sweet... which wah are you using in that clip?
[Edit: Nevermind... figured it out... somehow it didn't occur to me to read the tags on the video. D'oh! Either way, that was wicked cool.]
