How much do you guys usually pay for the wood for a body? And where do you recommend buying it? I dont have much money now but looking into starting my first build and I wanna try on something relatively cheap so if I mess up its not a huge loss to me

Not sure where you are, but big box stores and construction sites for 2x10's or 2x12's as a starter project are good enough. That's what I chose to learn on - maybe someday I'll learn to finish one.

Poplar should be cheap at a hardwood lumber yard near you. It would probably run you about 12 dollars for a body. Basswood would be about the same price.

Thanks guys, I'll look into local lumber places for some poplar

Local hardwood suppliers often stock a very nice assortment of exotic and domestic hardwoods and softwoods. Ash and Alder are the traditional "Tele" wood and are common and relatively inexpensive.

I got the ash for my Strat free. The pine I'm using for the Esquire was free too. Look on craigslist.
