Stupid question #635 :
Does it matter what place your buffer is in the chain ? I have two pedals that are supposed to have a buffer, The Visual Sounds Double Trouble and the Durham Sex Drive. Just wondering if the placement affects it.

I read that a buffered pedal should be either at the beginning or near the end but never in the middle.

If both pedals have a buffer you shouldn´t need an external buffer.

Do you have a BOSS tuner pedal? That pretty much takes care of it, too.

So your saying if you run a tu2 at the beginning of the chain there is no need for a dedicated buffer?

As close to the start of your chain as possible, but after fuzz pedals. Most fuzzerwuzzers hate anything besides a direct line to your pickups.

Ok, I'm confused now... My chain is : guitar>Korg tuner>Durham Sex Drive ( buffer )>Catalinbread Formula n5>VS Double Trouble ( buffer )>EVH Phase 90>Danelectro Cool Cat> BBE Sonic Maximiser> amp. So, what say you ?

Honestly, that looks like what I would do. If you had a Fuzz Face or something similar, I would tell you to put it in front of the buffer (Sex Drive). Buffers make fuzzes act weird, but seeing as how you don't have any I wouldn't worry. The only thing that I do differently is put phasers before dirt, but that is just personal preference.

You can place either at the beginning of the chain or at the end.

I gotcha. I usually don't use them at the same time, and when I do, it sounds ok "to me".
