Best place to buy a telecaster DIY kit?vj6pac August 12th, 2012, 12:45 AM Hey guys im looking into buying a tele kit to have a go at puting one together and was just woundering where is the best place to buy one? my budget is about the $300 mark. thanks in advance. Bentley August 12th, 2012, 01:14 AM If you're up for doing a little work to it, because it may have some dings, or you might have to finish it, or level frets, etc. (you would have to level frets on a kit probably anyway) check out this http://www.guitarfetish.com/Factory-Buyout-Clearance-Sale_c_411.html for a body and neck. Then you can buy cheap parts of e-bay that'll be higher quality then the kit parts. you can get real cheap but pretty decent stuff off e-bay. I recommend that. guitarbuilder August 12th, 2012, 05:12 AM I bought and owned one SAGA guitar kit when they were like 90 dollars. The body and neck were OK but they had sealer on them. The electronics and pickups were of the cheaper variety, although they probably wouldn't last as long as switchcraft and Cts stuff. You might be better off sourcing the individual parts from one or two vendors as you could get the better stuff right away. You might want to just get a Squier or used MIM tele, take it apart, and put it back together too because other than sanding/finishing, that's what the kits have to offer. Many of them are plug together electronic components. Most of the cheap parts on ebay are pretty much the same in my opinion, usable stuff that most people think is total crap because it is cheap :-) and people say it is junk without having any knowledge about it. Necks are a different story though. They don't do much fretwork on them. This one allows you to shape the peghead. http://www.grizzly.com/products/Telecaster-Guitar-Kit/H8068 http://www.evor.com/kit_tele.html http://www.amazon.com/Grizzly-H8070-Heirloom-Telecaster-Guitar/dp/B000LONIN6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1344763941&sr=8-2&keywords=telecaster+kit http://precisionguitarkits.com/alder-body-telecaster-maplemaple-neck/ http://www.amazon.com/Cozart-Hollow-Electric-Guitar-Builder/dp/B0037TWN0Q/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1344764008&sr=8-6&keywords=telecaster+kit Better quality parts?\http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-USA-Telecaster-Upgrade-Kit-Pots-Switch-Jack-Solder-Lug-Caps-Brand-New-/230775132602?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item35bb4511ba jimdkc August 12th, 2012, 07:43 AM Guitar Fetish has kits, too... And their Tele kit is their least expensive: http://www.guitarfetish.com/SUPER-LIghtweight-Tele-Style-kit-Maple_p_1204.html I suspect that most of the kits available are pretty much the same... and it wouldn't surprise me if most came from the same supplier! You'll probably want to upgrade the pickups and tuners, and maybe the electronics of most any kit out there. |
