I want to thank Rob Di Stefano for making one of his Lion pickups available to me to try in my American Standard Tele. I installed it and it does everything he said it does. It's more of everything, with nothing bad added to the mix. I found it to be a little deeper sounding on the bass strings, full in the middle tones, and a little less trebly, but still with enough treble to suit me. I can still roll a little treble off, it's not like the treble is not present, it's just a lot more agreeable sounding to my ears than the stock pickup was. It's like as if I had made a pickup to suit me, if I had known how to do so. Pretty cool, I'm sure Rob was pleased when he had his first success with this pickup for his own use.
The pickup is nice and full sounding, and mixes with the stock neck pickup very well which I already had decided I liked well enough. The middle position is decidedly better, no question in my mind. As soon as the pickups came into balance I knew the middle position would be used a lot more now.
There is a distinct difference in the middle and neck position. I know why you would choose the Lion pickup for an Esquire, it sounds good enough on the bridge position alone, you really wouldn't need the other pickup at all. It's nice that is does work well with the neck pickup though, an added bonus. One final thing the Lion is easily recognizable as an improvement over the stock pickup, not something that you would have to ponder whether it was worth doing or not. I hope my description has done the pickup justice, and be of help to someone.
Thanks again Rob.
