Am I wiring this right so far?

I know I shouldn't start another thread about the same topic but I am kind of in the middle of this and I think I am doing this wrong. I am trying to switch my three way switch because the last one was crappy.

This is the diagram that I am follow right now:
http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=tele_1hum_1sing

I noticed that for my humbucker the bare cable, green and white cable are taped together. So I soldered on the black cable to the three way switch and the red cable to the volume pot.

Now I am at the part where you have to connect the black cable to the two bottom right connectors on the switch along with two top connectors on the left side.

Is there any easy way to doing this?
I tried connection the two bottom left connectors and this is what it looks like so far:

This just doesnt look right at all, and it is very difficult to solder them together without burning my fingers. Any help on this would be great.

Would it be easier if I just strip the cable and connect it to all four connector lugs at once instead of using a bunch of little wires? Seriously any tip would help at this point!

I'm not very good at this stuff compared to many of the members on this forum, but since no one has answered yet, I will try ...

To use one wire to connect the lugs (as you suggested) are fine as long as you make it neat and see to it that it doesn't touch any lug besides the "right ones"

Also if you have the cavity shielded make sure the switch lugs doesn't short out by touching the bottom of the control cavity, had that happened to me a few times on my tele's ..

Do you have Seymor Duncan pickups ? because otherwise the colors may not be correct, I know there are some different coloring systems between different vendors. But that information is usually pretty easy to find, as long as you know what brand of pickups you already have ..

hope it helps in some way

Ah damn. I am screwed then. I have a DeArmond Gold Tone Humbucking Pickup. It came with the guitar and I cant find the proper wiring schematic anywhere online so I just went with the Seymor Duncan schematic.

Have a read of this. It may help.

maybe you can find the colour codes on the DeArmond wiring page (http://www.dearmondguitars.com/pickups.html)

Yeah I checked there but my pickup is not in any of those diagrams

Take an ohmmeter between each lead and work it out

It started off perfect until the original poster stopped posting and it turned into a trading session! I like the idea about the multimeter but it doesn't help because I already have the two cables taped. I think I am just going to look at the way it was wired up before
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2a5cbhv&s=6
and try to do some trial and error. Might take me a while but so far without a good schematic its the only option left.

Well, once you know which are the hot wires and which are the earth (ground) wires from the pickup(s) you can use a Fender wiring diagram.

They're all here. http://www.fender.com/en-GB/support/articles/telecaster-service-diagrams

This is the Am Standard schematic. http://support.fender.com/service_diagrams/telecaster/010-8400_02A_SISD.pdf

Alright cool! Also a very very quick question. Would you happen to know where I can get a telecaster tip for an ernie ball 3 way switch? The switch came with a black and a white strat tip.

Dunno, I'm in the UK.

MF or GC perhaps?

Yeah I'll check those online sites. WOO I got it to work!! I have one string set up so far just to hear how it sounds and it sounds good.

Only problem is that when I switch it to the middle (both pickups) I dont get any sound.

I connected all the wires correctly in my opinion and there was one cable just hanging there.

It is from the volume pot and it is just a random black cable.

I already have a wire connected from the volume pot to the switch so this one looks like an extra one.

according to every schematic I look at it looks like that mysterious cable is the ground cable.

Looking at the pic of your soldering job, I'd say your technique needs a lot of work. I see two cold-solder joints on that one wire. A good solder joint looks nice and shiny;a cold solder joint will look gray and grainy. You must heat the work up to where solder flows like liquid and hold the work still after the parts are joined until the solder solidifies.

If you haven't figured them out already, I suggest you get in touch with DeArmond and ask them what wire is which. Once you do that you can follow that SD wiring diagram and it'll work ok for you.

I would use three separate jumper wires to jump those four terminals: one each between the two terminals on the same side of the switch, and one between the terminals on either side of the switch. I would advise that you mechanically hook both wires up to the two terminals that get two wires each before soldering them together. It's much easier to properly attach them that way.

Good luck!
