Tele Conversion Help

Hello,
I have done a few stratocaster projects and I decided it was time to change things up. I searched CL and found a First Act 222 AL4042 (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/images/8_5370_36856.jpg) looks kinda similar to a Fender Jaguar but with one humbucker. I know this guitar is not very good, but basically all I wanted it for was the body which I have heard is decent and at 10 for the whole guitar I couldn't go too wrong. I have the guitar broken down and ready to sand for the repaint and rebuild, but I think I would like to wire it up like a Tele. I will replace the humbucker with a nicer one probably something from Rose Pickups. The confusion comes with how to add the neck pickup. I assume I can just route out a hole using a dremel. I have no knowledge of how the tele pickups mount, but I am assuming that the neck pickup mounts similar to a stratocaster and mounts to the pickguard. So if this is the case I dont think the route from the dremal would have to be perfect since the pickguard will be covering it up. Any ideas on this project would be appreciated.

Print out the neck and neck pickup portion of the tele drawng at the top of the page and attach that with spray glue or some other means to your body. Check your centerlines for proper alignment.

This drawing will indicate where you need to remove the material for the tele pickup with your dremel.

Then read some of the 2012 challenge contest build threads here so you can see what is required.

I've had a couple first act guitars I picked up for parts and the wood was african mahogany. They aren't bad guitars for the money and the necks are better than most of the things I see coming on cheap guitars.

Well I printed out a template and I think I have it routed out and if I am a little off the pickguard will hit it. I am moving on to the neck now and starting to apply truoil and noticed that the nut looks like it needs to be replaced because it just looks like cheap plastic. The problem is that this nut is 40mm wide from side to side of the fret board. The measurments I have got are 40mm length, 32.5mm string spacing, 7mm height at the high e string 8mm at the low e string, 5.5mm width. These are the closest measurement I can get. I am wanting to upgrade from the low quality plastic nut and have heard I can just get a 42mm nut and then sand the ends down but I notice that all these also have a wider spacing. So is there a place where I can buy a better nut, I plan to add a bigsby so I need it to work with a tremolo, or should I just buy the closest size I can and sand it down. I do not want to start from a blank, I do not have the tools to make it and can not afford to buy the files and saws needed.
