NGD and Stupid NG question of the day

OK, I just got a beautiful 2012 Lucille for a really great price and it is georgous. I knew it had the veritone feature and stereo connectors and that one would handle both pickups and the other handles the bridge only and in stereo mode.

Now I'm standing here wondering how I am going to connect it up to a single amp to play stereo? Do I use a "Y" on the guitar end to a stereo cable and then in to the amp? Go in to two channels with two cables (or single with a Y at both ends).

What are the options here? Oh and pics:

If you amp has only one input, it's not going to be in stereo? I'm not sure I follow.

I really wanted to know if the only function of the stereo is to run two amps. How might they be used otherwise? The toggle only works in two positions if only the mono plug is used. From the documentation:

"Stereo: Some models have two jacks, for Mono or Stereo signal. For normal play, use a standard guitar cord from the Mono jack. For stereo output, a “Y cord” is required. The Y-cord plugs into the Stereo jack and splits the signal into two channels, with one pickup per channel, which can be connected to two different amplifiers. Note: Plugging two separate cords into the Mono and Stereo jacks will not result in stereo output."

Carvin used to do this a lot back in the '80's.
My SH225 is wired this way.
Stereo wiring that split the pickups, except that you plugged into both jacks.

After thinking about it, I never saw the point unless you always had the pickup selector set to the middle pickup or you *really* needed a different amp for each pup.
Which then required a separate pedalboard for each amp.

If you were doing a wide "stereo" setting, one amp per side of the stage, then any time you switched to either single pup, the other side of the stage wasn't getting guitar sound.
To remedy that, you'd need at least a pair of speakers per amp, one speaker per side from each amp.

Too complicated for, IMO, not much return.

I just plug into a board with a stereo chorus/reverb pedal at the end of the chain and call it a day.

Now I'm even more confused.

In the Demo above you can see that he has a cable "Y" or cables plugged into both jacks as in the screen grab below:

So based on the Documentation, he must be running three amps? Maybe he is running mono on one channel of one amp and the stereo in to a second channel and then another amp and just switching back and forth to demo?

And I thought 4 knobs was complicated.

See, this is what happens when the player of a humble Tele gets his hands on an overly complicated, fancy guitar. TUTM, step away from the posh toy and get back to playing a proper working man's guitar!

Personally, I'd say stick with mono - stereo operation sounds like a royal pain in the backside for little additional gain! Surely *all* pickup and varitone selections should be available in mono, right?

Yes I blew that. If you plug into the stereo "by accident" you only get the bridge or neck positions. BTW - you have to play these exotic thingys to appreciate the Tele's simplicity. I have to admit I've wanted a 335/355 for a long while and this was one of those "Nows your chance" opportunities.

Sounds way to complicated. You should just send it to me as I have always wanted one.

I wonder if there are BB King interviews that talk about how BB uses it.

I sometimes play 2 amps but I have my guitar going into an A/B/Y pedal. One amp has slight overdrive and the other amp is spanky clean. I can use eaither amp or both to get a huge sound.

I would think that if your bridge pickup was routed to a slightly dirty amp and if your neck pickup was routed to a spanky clean amp and if the amps were 10 feet apart the sound would be remarkable.

I would hope that you could use the bridge pickup and stay dirtier or only the neck pickup and stay clean or use both pickups (both amps) and sound huge. Sounds like this is how it's wired.

Sounds like a lot of fun to me. I do it with a footswich but I cannot get a specific pickup to go straight to a specific amp.

Had a 345 for over 20 years. You could run it into two channels, two amps, a ABY or quad box like the Morley or other brand. I would often use a regular cord and play with one pu. If you plan on giging a lot with it, you could look at having it converted to mono.

What is the veritone selection? Is this like a Variax thing? If so you can sound like two different guitars playing the same thing at the same time? Just curious?

The Gibson Varitone (http://www.blueshawk.info/varitone.htm) is a rotary switch that selects different capacitors, here's a few demos:

It works fine in mono. All pup combinations and varitone settings. Stereo appears to be just that, Stereo out to separate amps using a "Y". I just posted before I did any research; including spelling and as said "Stupid" NG post". Sure is a looker though.

Mine was a 1967, it was stereo only. Do you mean it's got two inputs like a Rickenbacker?
Awsume if it does. They get a sound that can be very solid body [L.P.] all the way to mellow jazz. At any rate it's a gorgious guitar. Yours has a very deep cherry finnish that is real fine !

Yes. You can see them in the pic of the white one I posted up above ( post #5). One mono, one stereo.
