Replacement pups in '69 reissue Thinline Tele

Any opinions/suggestions on replacement pups for my '69 reissue Thinline Tele? After listening to the below clips, I am VERY intriqued by the Fralin stock Tele replacement pups. I know there is more to it than just the pups, but I just love the tone this guy gets. Anyone else out there using Fralins?

Thanks,
Dale

If you're willing to go down the deep, deep rabbit hole that is Thinline Pickup Talk, there's a lot of great options out there, but the "authentic" sound is going to be indebted to the "Wide Range" pickups the likes of which Telenator and Lollar make.
Me? I'd maybe consider gettin' weird with it... maybe throw in some Filtertrons.

J.K., the OP is talking about the 69 thinline style, which has standard tele single coil size pups in both neck and bridge - you're thinking of the 72 thinline style with the Wide Range HB's.

Don't have personal experience with the Fralins, but I know they are good pups for a lot of folks - plus, Lindy Fralin from what I understand has a pretty good reputation with regards to making sure the customer is satisfied.

That being said, there are a ton of options out there. I would avoid anything hotter than say, Fender Custom Shop Texas Specials (which I have in my 69 thinline and they are perfect for me in that guitar along with 250k pots). Plenty of boutique guys out there, Fralin being one of them. Plenty of guys on TDPRI make pups too. You seem to have taken a liking to the Fralins you linked to, so I say give them a shot. Correspond with Fralin about the pups and be honest with yourself about what you want out of pups. I suspect you'll be tickled pink with the Fralins though if you went with them.

I swapped the pots for 250Ks and ran Duncan Alnico II Pros in my Tele. If I could do it again, I'd use a Jerry Donahue bridge. Those '69s are bright and need a warmer pickup to balance them out.

My 69 RI is the ash body one. I was seriously pondering one of several Don Mare sets (cause Don makes the best tele p/us I've heard), when a local guy advertised a pair of Wolfetone cub p/us, quite reasonable in price. So now they're in the tele. The stock p/us didn't do much for me. These do. Especially the bridge. Vintage style, not too hot, big sound.

I have a MIM 69 Thinline, and I have been thinking about replacing the pickups because the bridge sounds pretty icepicky. Apparently, however, switching out the pots will fix this problem. That being said, here's my question. I know somebody selling stock pickups for an American 1952 Tele RI. It includes the pickups, electronics, control plate. I was curious if you guys think it's wise/possible to switch all of the electronics out but obviously not use the control plate with the thinline?

I think, aside from the control plate, you should be in good shape for a direct replacement. Keep in mind that the standard '52 wiring is not "modern" wiring so you may have to rewire it for Neck - Neck/Bridge - Bridge.
