...my guitar teacher gave it to me a little while back, and I forgot about it.

I'm happy with the pickups in the Teles I already have. Would be nice to build an inexpensive parts Tele to use for rock/fusion, and a beefier sound.

Anybody have, or heard this pickup? I have an original Tone Zone, and it's pretty decent. What choice of wood for the body would go best with it?

Put one into a pine Esquire for a guy that plays blues/rock/country. Into a Peavey tube amp with 4 10's it was pretty meaty with very strong mids but still retained a bit of Tele character.

Put another into a one-pickup pine Telemaster for a guy that plays punkabilly. Through a Hot Rod Deville it was very aggressive with very pronounced mids and no problem cutting through the heavy distortion and overdrive of the rhythm guitarist.

It seems to depend a lot on the particular amp. I'd say it's pretty mid-heavy but in the right set up can retain some Tele character. Beefy without sliding completely into humbucker territory. Maybe not my first choice for a lot of nuance but it will definitely rock!
