I have recently finished "modding" my junky Frontman I got with a Squier bundle I got when I first started playing guitar. I opened up the back and painted the inside black. Not a big deal but it sounds better to me. Anyway, the gain channel still leaves a lot to be desired. I have been looking in to building my own distortion pedal. The one I had my eye on was the one on instructables, heres the link http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-an-easy-guitar-distortion-pedal-STEP-BY-STEP/. My question is, will the sound from this circuit be any better than what I have now? Or should I not even bother? Are there any other SIMPLE circuits you can recommend that would be an improvement? Thanks everyone.

The part about choosing electrolytic capacitors just because they have the value written on them is pretty weird isn't it?
This looks like the MOD thunderdrive, at least it has the same # of components give or take. I found that kit inexpensive, easy, ya learn a lot and it sounds pretty dern good. There should be a link to mod kits diy up there ^^^^^ I think
At any rate, if you want to learn about electronics the internet is full of better experts than whoever this is. I have found lots of great info at geofex.com
