Anybody out there have any personal experience with
Fralin sp43's for neck position? I ordered one today, in
hopes it will live up to the hype of its P90 sound.
We've all spent more on less, right??

Not tried those but I have the Blues Special, a stock stagger, & a stock Stagger +2% & I absolutely love my Fralin pickups. I'm sure you will not be disappointed. If you are, Lindy is good to swap out until you are happy. He's a great guy & a heck of a pickup winder!

Off hand and for that format, I'd think the sp43 would be more P90-like than the sp42's. I don't know what gives the P90's the type of bass response they have, but the 43's are probably more like it. If that's Hi-Q steel in the screws (as opposed to stainless), you're likely to have inductances in the 4-6H range, like real P90's. I guess that means more output, but also less highs at the same capacitance load. Someone who actually knows can correct me, but I think the sp42 "formula" is basically the same as the original Fender Ceramics that everyone thought were too dark and sharp sounding -- easily remedied by using a low capacitance cable and turning the tone pot down a bit. If the screws and sockets are stainless, the Q factor will be lower like standard Strat Pickups. Again, the sp43's probably have clearer bass/mids and a slightly smoother peak due a lower Q factor than the sp42's. A low C cable would give you back some highs. Should be interesting to hear them in any case.

That's basically what Fralin told me there Narco. The 43 is what I have
Coming. Just antsy to try it. May be 4 weeks before it shows up though.
