Clapton on the Johnny Cash ShowJethro August 4th, 2012, 04:19 PM I have to say, this may be my favourite era of Clapton's....thought this was cool clip of Derek and the Dominoe's on Johnny's show vX10HmPGUT4&feature Dr. Bill August 4th, 2012, 04:35 PM Great clip, and a great band. Stubee August 4th, 2012, 04:46 PM Great vocals, great clip! Del Pickup August 4th, 2012, 05:08 PM So much is made of the guitar interplay between EC and Duane Allman in that band that it's seldom commented upon just how great the vocal interplay between Clapton and Whitlock was as well. Bobby Whitlock had (maybe still has) a great voice. Paul in Colorado August 4th, 2012, 05:32 PM I love that clip. I have it on a Best of the Johnny Cash Show video. I really need to get my VCR fixed. Hiker August 4th, 2012, 05:42 PM Great! Clapton solo from 2:10-3:00 on the video. Stubee August 4th, 2012, 06:21 PM Yeah, the vocal & song writing of Clapton/Whitlock was something. Shidoin August 4th, 2012, 06:32 PM Straight into a SF twin! WaylonFan76 August 4th, 2012, 06:34 PM Yep, and Clapton flubs a note, which makes me feel better about my own mishaps... Del Pickup August 4th, 2012, 10:21 PM I spotted that as well but he recovered so quickly it almost made me think he was just trying to play jazz!!! Actually he's been known to make mistakes on a regular basis over the years. But he's man enough to just get on with it and smile it off. The one that's probably best known is in the dvd of a 1980's concert with Phil Collins where he hits a bum note and they add a cartoon balloon over his head on the dvd which says something like 'oops'! Last time I saw him in Sydney in 2009, he messed up the intro to 'Layla'! I heard it during the concert and within a couple of days there were a rash of vids on YouTube with this mistake all over them! He is only human after all................ Jethro August 4th, 2012, 11:32 PM Yeah fer sure, I prefer the more human side of Clapton. In the Last Waltz when the strap comes off his axe and Robbie steps in is still one of my fave moments....then of course he comes back and just lets it rip  DrumBob August 5th, 2012, 03:22 AM That was my favorite Clapton period, right there. He had it all going on; great playing, a developing singing style, a terrific band, a great shag haircut (I had mine cut the same way after I saw how good EC looked). I mourn the early death of that band. They could have done so much more, if drugs, drink and insanity hadn't finished them off. Telemarkman August 5th, 2012, 03:42 AM An absolutely great little rock band! He is only human after all................ Yeah, it was WE, the fans, who wanted to make him God - I don't think he ever wanted to be anything more than a blues player. Though he's been playing a lot of pop/rock music, the blues is what his guitar playing has always been about - it lies at the bottom of everything he does. limbe August 5th, 2012, 05:48 AM Clapton quote on the cover of a rock magazine: "I used to be God but I am alright now." He´s got that dry British sense of humor as well. MacQuarrie August 6th, 2012, 08:16 AM Clapton is. fatcat August 6th, 2012, 09:19 AM Absolutely Brilliant! never saw that before, you guys are right the vocal combination of Clapton/Whitlock is tight. Im a big fan of both Clapton and Cash..Its neat to see Eric without all that fuzz on his face. Thanks, you have made my monday less blue. brookdalebill August 6th, 2012, 09:22 AM Bobby W still sings his a** off! Great clip! Mike Eskimo August 6th, 2012, 09:59 AM If Jim Gordon hadn't gone off the rails we'd speak about him the same way we talk about Keltner, Bonham, Bellerose, Purdie or any of the great drummers. One of the best. Telemarkman August 6th, 2012, 10:32 AM If Jim Gordon hadn't gone off the rails we'd speak about him the same way we talk about Keltner, Bonham, Bellerose, Purdie or any of the great drummers. One of the best. Absolutely! He was a member of the Wrecking Crew and had played with everyone and his brother. H. Mac August 6th, 2012, 10:51 AM Derek and the Dominos was really a great band, and "It's too Late" is one of my favorites. limbe August 7th, 2012, 03:32 AM Absolutely! He was a member of the Wrecking Crew and had played with everyone and his brother. Reading a list of the people he has worked with is like reading the phone book. Good Iron August 7th, 2012, 03:47 AM Bell Bottoms! didn't hear the flub - How cool is Johnny! over and out Whoa Tele August 7th, 2012, 08:30 AM I always thought Clapton's voice was more suited for the country side of the blues. His vocals sound fine on a straight blues tune but others do it much better IMO. bluesfordan August 7th, 2012, 10:51 AM cool, thanks for the clip straight into drip edge twin, yeah, baby elihu August 7th, 2012, 12:44 PM Noticed that Johnny introduced all the band members by their full name-few people would think of that. Here's part two... uaGF6WPuSpM Stubee August 7th, 2012, 01:47 PM Man, that was great again. Bob Mc August 7th, 2012, 02:05 PM Been a huge fan for many years. There is a quick moment (4:16) in the first video where EC looks at Cash and just about blushes. +1 on his human side, warts and all. I dig his music and it's evolution (OK, minus the Phil Collins bit) Jethro August 10th, 2012, 12:50 PM Noticed that Johnny introduced all the band members by their full name-few people would think of that. Here's part two... uaGF6WPuSpM Aww shucks, that is just way too cool. The influence that Perkins had on the likes of Clapton and Harrison, not to mention Johnny's influence. That's another great clip Jethro August 10th, 2012, 12:59 PM ....and 5 years later with The Band. This whole time frame is my fave of EC's. Tonally less midrange hump, and more human as mentioned before. At 40 sec his strap pops off  DBIqih5gWz4&feature |
