Im building a nashville tele for a friend. Is it best to get a nashville pick guard first and use it for pickup positioning to be sure it will fit?

Yes. Even a little off is enough to not have the pickup sit straight in the pickguard unless you have a huge rout underneath.

My AmSer07 has a stock Nashville rout.

It lines up exactly where a strat middle pickup would be.

Overlay a strat pickguard, the front will admit the tele neck pickup, the rear will centre on the tele bridge pickup (more slant), and the middle will align, bang-on the middle rout.

The stock rout will only take a single-coil but it is big enough for a fair amount of wiggle-room, pickguards vary

Here's how a Mexican Nashville is routed.

Be aware that pickguards for Mexican Nashvilles and American Nashvilles are not the same. The middle pickup location is different.

The Mexican pool rout will take the middle pickup in the strat position same as the Merikan single hole rout.

But pickguard fitting to a MIM is a trifle different to a MIA.

When you DIY things get weird.

That strat pickguard exactly matches the pickup holes in the AmSer07

Yep I think I will just layout the pickguard and rout a single pocket for the middle. Thanks guys
