Just got this today! It was a birthday present from my wife! I've been wanting something a little strange, with a wiggle stick, preferably black, had been looking at Jazzmasters, when this thing showed up! It fills the bill just about perfect.

The fit and finish are great, just as good as the 2010 MIM tele I bought a while back. The neck is thin and well finished, fretwork is great. The nut is nicely cut. Electronics are smooth, everything feels right. I was really surprised at how spot on the intonation was right out of the box. It was tuned to E flat and was almost right on. After quickly tuning up I checked the intonation and it was perfect. It is setup much better than my MIM tele.

I haven't played it enough yet to make a judgement on the pickups, although there is certainly nothing wrong with them. Honestly though, the plan for this guitar is a bit of an experiment into filtered, delayed, noisy, ambient rock. So the pickups may not be much of an issue. I'm usually a guitar straight to amp kind of guy, so this is a new thing for me.

I've never owned anything with a strat trem. The only wigglesticks I've owned are Bigsbys. This will take some adjusting to get used to, but I'm sure it will be fine. The trem is setup flat to the deck and it stays in tune as is. I will adjust it to float, and set it up with 10s tomorrow. I guess it must have a set of 9s on it, and they feel way too flabby to me.

Very happy with the guitar. Definately recommended if you are looking for something unique!

That looks really nice.I have been thinking about one of these recently.I saw a female musician play a dark blue marauder a year or so back on a Music quiz show(i can't remember her name though).

That looks like fun! Reminds me of those 60's Japanese type electrics you used to see in pawn shops.

Wow! Nice!

What is going on with the bridge pickup? Is it a humbucker right next to a single coil? I've never seen that before.

Nice wife! (Mine's like that too.)

Nice axe! I like things a little off beat.

Thanks everyone!

Seasicksailor - The bridge pickup is a triplebucker. Position 5 on the switch is just the last 2 coils, position 4 is all 3 coils, and position 3 is just the forward coil. Position 2 is the JM pickup plus the forward coil, and position 1 is just the JM pickup. Pretty wide variety of tones, although all of the triplebucker positions are much louder than the Jazzmaster pickup.

Mike Bruce - yeah I feel pretty lucky to be married to such a wonderful girl!

I switched to 10s today and did a full setup. Had to do a slight neck shim to get things perfect. Now the neck is almost completely flat like I like 'em, super low action, no buzzing, setscrews in the saddles are now low enough to not dig into your hand when you pick back there, and the trem floats. Stays in tune great.

Nice!

Coincidently this evening I picked up a modern player as a birthday present from my wife too... though mine's a tele, and my wife only paid for part of it, but still.

That's not a Marauder though. It's some kind of Jaguar with a strat trem. Super cool whatever it is.

The Marauder has never really been made before, Fender put it in the catalogs in the 60's but it never made it to production. This new Modern Player series is the first Marauder in production ever. No other Fender has that body style, or pickup config. That's one thing that really attracted me to it, it's not just another version of a strat or tele or jag or jazzie.
