Hey folks. Brand new to the TDPRI. Joined just to post pix of the new lady in my life, whom I call Teleanor. She started out as a red Squier Bigsby Tele that was sold @ Guitar Center (exclusively, I think.) I saw her, gave her a spanking in the store for about 10 minutes, and took her home. I mean, for $299! I would have kicked myself later.
So, first things first, I completely shielded her insides. Next, I gutted the stock pickups and added a Bill & Becky L202TN in the neck, oozing a dreamy, glassy sweetness. In the bridge I put a "Lawrence" USA TL 250. Yeah, I know...the injustice of it all. Honestly, I've played pickups from both sides of the battle, and y'know what? They're both great pickups. I honestly wanted the blade, and The Master Bill (salt of the earth) just doesn't make 'em anymore. Hopefully, that cosmic tension will make for sonic magic under my strings. These pickups are the quietest I've ever played. I can be plugged into a dimed AC30 with my hands in the air, and she doesn't make a peep untiil I drop an A chord that cracks ribs.
I flipped the control cover, gutted it, and installed a single CTS 250K linear taper volume pot - no tone. I then replaced the crappy cup jack with a burly Les Paul flush-mount style jack plate. Rock solid. No worries there.
Finally, the miserable Jazzmaster-style bridge was replaced with a Mastery Bridge. This piece is incredible, and worth every penny spent. Check these guys in Minnesota out if you haven't already; they give me hope for American craftmanship.
The poly finish on her was pretty lame, and had to go. So after all this, I took her apart, scuffed her up and rattlecanned her flat black hanging from a tree outside my lil' greasy shack at midnight, lettin' her soak up some sugary moonlight.
All told, I'm into her for around $600 and some change - a whole lot less than an American Fender with a Bigsby - and she smokes. She's unique, and a real player. She's the perfect combination of spank, growl, and shimmer. Check her out!
Cheers!
