Thats all well and good, flash admittedly, but can they play an Open G chord without touching the D string with the finger fretting the A string?

No? ............. Thought not. Basics, boys, Basics.

Did Tommy bring a lil lunchbox (maybe an evans) on stage with him? OR maybe it was a preamp of some sort?

Awesome! I thought the applause for Tommy when he came on stage was polite at best - I wonder how many people in the audience knew him. Would have sounded even better in a studio...using mics instead of pickups in those beautiful flat-tops.

That's great! Hadn't seen that yet.

Brad Paisley earns points in guitar nerd heaven for giving that shout out to his old guitar teacher... I'm even more impressed that he managed to hang with Tommy and only suffered minor singe marks...

I don't know if anyone else saw this, but I was also impressed by this clip of Tommy doing autographs. A fan shows up and mentions that his frets are buzzing, so Tommy gets a truss rod wrench and adjusts the fan's guitar for him! Tommy Emmanuel is too cool.

Blazing playing, horrible tone/sound.
Piezos sound like #@%&!
Clouds of plastic toned gnat-notes.
Aaargh!

I'm getting my first live Tommy experience next year - front row seats for him and Martin Taylor. Can't wait.

To above ^, I've been to 4 of his shows, guaranteed goosebumps or close to tears. A consummate performer and artiste truly for every meaning of the word.

Tommy is also a pretty hot drummer too.

I have memories of seeing him playing drums with "Night & Day" at the All Nations Club at the Cross (in Sydney) back in the early 80s.

Anyone else around here that recalls that ?

Piezo pickups are the worst thing to ever happen to the acoustic guitar. I don't care how incredible that performance may have been, I couldn't listen to it.

I've seen entities, particularly around campfires, that could arguably be worse (in a sense) to the acoustic guitar, or my perception of it. One more chorus of "Let It Be," pretty please!

I do not like the word "Piezo." it sounds like an Italian sandwich made of Legos.

A question a little off the beaten path....
Did Brad & Tommy rehearse that song together or are they that good to just walk out and play it like that?

Wow! I might get to meet Brad at a concert in Sept. I'm going to bring a tele and see if he'll swap out some pickups for me. :-)
