Essential Derek Trucks?

Any particular DT that jumps out as essential to own (besides his live stuff, which I would assume is more essential than his studio records?), or does it all kind of stand together?

I like DT best with the Allman bros.
The Instant Live concerts they've put out are astounding. Go to hittin the note on google and you'll find a large selection.

Just about anything he did. 'Joyful Noise' is a nice 'hodge podge' of stuff using different vocalists. Any live stuff is good too. Of course he has been a great addition to Allman Bros.

Sorry, I guess I should have been more specific - I meant essential Derek Trucks Band. I know he's doing great things on the old Allman classics with them, too, and he's got the gig with his wife. I'm getting interested in hearing his band - Joyful Noise, the song, is really all I'm familiar with ... and it's great. So you recommend Joyful Noise the album, too?

Thanks

I have mostly live stuff from DT but Out of the Madness is really good. I think it may be his first album but not sure.

Already Free is a great album. I almost always listen to it from start to end uninterrupted.

That is the only albumn of his i have so far. Its solid but is missing a certain something to make it great.

The first one I'd recommend is Live at Georgia Theatre. It's a nice mix of blues, jazz, funk and Eastern sounding songs and great playing by Derek. Another favorite of mine is Soul Serenade, mostly instrumental.

I'm not as crazy about the more song oriented discs Songlines and Already Free. Not bad albums though. What I've heard of Roadsongs ( the dTb's final album, also live) I've liked.

Ok, you talked me into it. I pulled the trigger on iTunes about 10 seconds ago. I figured his live stuff would be a can't-go-wrong proposition, and I knew I wanted a version of the tune Joyful Noise. Plus, from everything that's been said here, it sounds like this was the best way to start.

Thanks, y'all.

O.K. I have just listened to an hour-and-a-half of the Tedeschi Trucks band live at the Mt. Jam 2012...

I feel like I have been under a rock...(in my case a computer at work)..

Holy Schnitzel!?

side note: the funniest thing I found an old clip of him with the Allman Bros. from 1993, if I understood the tag line of the clip correctly.. Just a baby..

I saw the Allmans in 1992 or 1993, but all I really remember from that is a bad sunburn.. I can't remember much of 1991 to 1995 anyway, I had too much of a good time.
