I recently picked up a very nice condition USA strat (serial number Z0287343). Year 2000 right? Sorry no pix yet, but it sure looks like either torino red or fiesta red? It is a very nice mid color red with a hint or hue of orange to it....no metal flake...solid red.....

Were either of these a color option in 2000?

I had an American series Tele in that same color from that same exact year, and also went on a search to find what the hue was officialy called. Turned out that year they released it as Torino Red.

Mehtinks there is something amiss. In 2000, the non-metallic red, that looks sort of like Fiesta Red, was Hot Rod Red. They still make the Mark Knopfler strat in his color I believe, check it against that. I am still on the lookout for a hot rod red /maple board Am. Std. from that era. Very cool color.

I was selling them then, for a big dealer, and I do not remember a Torino Red being available that year. I could be wrong, but it's not highly likely. If Fender says Torino, it would not be the first time they got their own history wrong.

I'm betting it's Hot Rod.

Found out from Fender that the guitar was made in March 2001, and is "HOT ROD" red.......

He shoots, he SCORES!!!!

Congrats. One of the coolest reds Fender ever made IMO. Looks especially sweet with a maple fretboard...

Gorgeous. About that color- It may be true, or not... Fender reps have often given me very misleading info. I don't think on purpose ever, I just think they're mostly clueless. When I was in the business of selling guitars and amps, I always relied on my own research. Reps from every company I dealt with were frequently supplying very lame or false info.

Anyhow, the Fender rep at the time I was selling these, told me it was the same color used on the year 2000 red Dodge Vipers. I've seen red Vipers, and the red doesn't look the same to me, but sprayed on different surfaces, colors often take on slightly different hues. I suppose it's possible that the color would look different depending on whether it was sprayed on wood, metal, fiberglass, etc. It's probably also not the same paint formulation, even if the color was "matched". Anyhow, that's what I was told at the time, I thought it was pretty cool if it were true.

I remember in the early 90's, the Alvarez electric guitars were using Emeron (sp?) paint, supposedly the exact same as the GM shades at the time. Fender custom colors in the 50's and 60's were all car colors.
