Dull, dull, dull. Anyone else having this problem? Sounds like a blanket over the amp. I have several teles, all with different pickups and the same pots 250k. Just aint happening. Should I try 500k with these? They are the vintage models both neck and bridge.

This design likes being close to the strings and will not pull the strings out of tune. It will work fine with a 500k pot for a brighter tone.

I tried the close to string thing, still dull just more of it.

I think the 500k pot was the more important piece of information.

I'll try the 500k pots and get back in a few days. I guess I'll have to find solid shaft 500k so my knobs will work out.

Any pickups of this variety will be darker with 250k pots. I like the effect. Play some Bardens through 500k pots into a DRRI without the bright cap clipped and you'll learn to use the treble knob real quick.

I have Barden Gatton pickups in one of my teles with 250k pots, and they are bright! I love the sound they get. I like to cut the highs at the amp, not the guitar. Anyway.... are you saying I should use the 500k and take the cap completely out?

Hola!
I've got a guitar that started as a cabronita, and now it has two strat pickups.
The history
-> Fralin SP43 bridge, TV Jones MagnaTron neck, 250 volume pot
-> DiMarzio Chopper bridge, TV Jones MagnaTron neck, 500 volume pot
I play rock music and it is nice to have a 'humbucker' in the bridge because the feedback is more control-able.
I'm a single-coil player and I missed that tone from the neck, so I put a Van Zandt Vintage Plus there...gorgeous tone!!! I put a 250 vol.pot instead of the 500 and the Chopper became a dull thing. This made decide to replace it with another Van Zandt...or a Fralin Split Blade. But I can't decide...
VZ pros: pure single-coil tone, it will match the neck pickup (another VZ) perfectly.
VZ cons: uncontrolable feedback
Fralin Split pros: controlable feedback, good single coil-ish tone
Fralin Split cons: would it sound dull with a 250 volume pot?
I live in Hungary and there ain't no Fralin or VZ dealer in the neighborhood, and it takes at least two weeks for anything to get here from the US so it's clear that I wanna go for sure.
What ya guys think?
