That said I think I may look into one of these bad boys but I almost would rather have an AC15. Mike Simpson July 30th, 2012, 11:35 AM I prefer a demo that shows the amp, guitar and pedal being played... I don't care for an over produced demo that occasionally shows a picture of the pedal not plugged in. I have bought a couple of Catalinbread pedals that were a bit disappointing although that might be what I am trying to use them for. I think application is key, that and accepting what it is and isn't. This is suppose to create an overdriven AC30 with a treble booster (when engaged) not a replacement for an AC30. That would be silly, but if I can get the AC30 crunch out of DRRI that would be a good thing. artdecade July 30th, 2012, 01:54 PM The demos sound great. I have a Vox and a Fryer treble booster, but I have to be pretty darn loud to get those tones. Mike Simpson July 30th, 2012, 04:42 PM I like my Formula n5 a lot. Ya, I have one of those and I use it for a few songs. It does not sound like a driven tweed amp though and it is mostly full on dirt with very little transition from clean to dirty. It sounds best when the amp and the pedal are cranked up more than is allowable. It is still on my board though. I also have a Pariediola and it has too much phase, there needs to be a way to adjust the phase level mixed with the vibrato. This one has not made it to the board. overlook1977 August 8th, 2012, 08:29 AM I bought this pedal from PGS and am returning it. One huge red flag should have been the youtube video didn't really demo the pedal very well. I plugged it in and immediately noticed a major volume drop. I dimed the volume and switched it on and off and realized without the booster on, the pedal volume on 10 is exactly what your clean volume is. This is the only overdrive/distortion pedal I have ever owned that does this and I absolutely hate it. You can engage the top boost which boosts your volume, but the pedal sounds very bland through both my practice Pro Junior and my Vibrolux. I never would have paid $200 for it, it sounds like any other overdrive pedal and the top boost is too noisy for me to use on its own. Not sure how they were getting these tones on the demo but I imagine the amp was already being pushed. JesterR August 8th, 2012, 10:31 AM I did not tried this one or CB30, but Catalinbread dirt pedals known to have volume more, then you ever need. So, something definitely wrong with your pedal. Basically, CB, as other Amp-in a-box a pretty different from other dirt boxes. Many of them, mybe because they try to mimic particular amp response they have love/hate thing with different amps: they sound really average into one amps, and totally brilliant with others. Also, they like a bigger volume to "feel" them, so I am understand, why this box has pretty mixed reviews. overlook1977 August 8th, 2012, 11:28 AM I did not tried this one or CB30, but Catalinbread dirt pedals known to have volume more, then you ever need. So, something definitely wrong with your pedal. No, I think it is the design of the pedal. The overdrive volume matches your clean volume when its turned all the way up. The pedal can get louder than this, but only by clicking the Top Boost switch on. This was possibly designed to keep from having really loud volume spikes when engaging the OD and the boost at the same time. However this makes the overdrive by itself very weak in my opinion. I read some reviews on CB30 and this pedals, and nobody notice, that volume is too low. |
