Dan The Man July 30th, 2012, 04:36 AM I will be replacing the standard tuners on my American Standard Strat with some genuine Fender vintage style tuners. I know I will need conversion bushings as the ones supplied with the vintage tuners are too small in diameter to fit properly.
I'm looking at ordering from StewMac. My question is which ones do I need?
Either.......
Part#3459 10.5mm Round Conversion Bushings (Retrofit vintage-style tuners in modern pegheads)
or........
Part#3458 3/8" Conversion Tuner Bushing (Adapts 1/4" string post to fit larger pegholes)
I think I need the 10.5mm bushings as the clue seems to be in the description!! I'd just like someone to confirm my thoughts!!
p.s - thanks to all who helped me out on my questions about import tax costs!!

boris bubbanov July 30th, 2012, 08:01 AM The answer is 10.0 mm.
10.5 mm is for Squiers, other non North American assembled guitars.
Texecaster August 15th, 2012, 04:52 AM Just to revive an old thread........
I have a mighty mite neck and the tuners holes are between 10.6 and 10.7mm wide.
The vintage style tuners I have use 6mm shafts.
The Stewmac bushes listed here are 10.5mm.
http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Tuner_parts/Tuner_Bushings/10_5mm_Round_Conversion_Bushings.html?read=reviews&tab=Specs
I have a feeling that these are going to be too small to be a "press" fit for my neck.
Has anyone struck this before and / or found slightly bigger bushings?
Cheers.
boris bubbanov August 15th, 2012, 03:29 PM Texecaster, I would buy and try the appropriate conversions and see if they aren't snug enough.
Usually these things have some "excess tightness" to them so a slightly oversized hole will not ruin everything.
Texecaster August 16th, 2012, 09:38 AM For anyone that needs these in the future, they have 10.8mm ones here:

Hi Boris, my tuner holes are closer to 10.7mm so the 10.5mm one will be loose.
I'll try the 10.8mm ones first.
Cheers.

Looking forward to some pictures of how these look.
They'll be bigger in the flange, but might not be too bad.

PJ September 26th, 2012, 08:22 PM The StewMac bushings have smaller flanges and look very much like the vintage bushings. Some supplier's bushings are enlarged at the bore dimension, but (IMO) too much at the flange. Here's a pic of the Stew-Mac bushings. The Kluson reducer bushings are a very nice design, also (available at WD).
