Hi guys, I've just entered myself for my first ever guitar exam, rockschool grade 4. The exam period doesn't start for a few months yet but I'm starting to get quite excited/nervous already!?
Do any of you have any tips for success that might help me out?
Cheers

What does the exam involve?

I have to play three pieces, some scales and do a sight reading and improv test.

That sounds interesting and a nice challenge! I have plenty of exam experience, but no music exam experience I'm afraid. So, my one tip (apart from studying!) is do your best to walk in there confident.

I had hardly prepared for an exam and I knew I was not going to do well. Right outside the exam room, I met a friend. He told me something like "Even if you haven't prepared properly, I'm sure you'll kick a$$!" and he squeezed my shoulder hard. It was a funny feeling... I walked in there almost arrogant! I knew I was 'bluffing' but I fooled myself! It was one of my best exam results.

Sorry I cannot be of any help regarding more specific tips, but do not underestimate confidence (even if it's fake) especially in performance exams.

Interesting, thanks for that!
