What kind of stain should I be looking for to finish my strat partscaster with? I want a darker color not as dark as rosewood but somewhere in-between there.

Good stains?El Hefe July 27th, 2012, 08:48 PM What kind of stain should I be looking for to finish my strat partscaster with? I want a darker color not as dark as rosewood but somewhere in-between there. El Hefe July 27th, 2012, 08:56 PM Something like this is what I'm after, http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae118/Jah-Rasta-Mon65/1961-pre-cbs-strat-large.jpg randomhitz July 27th, 2012, 09:06 PM Having less that satisfactory results trying to stain a light wood fairly dark the next time I tried it I would for sure use a gel stain. Haven't tried any particular brand. El Hefe July 27th, 2012, 09:17 PM Yea the body wood is light colored, think its alder. NastyMojo August 16th, 2012, 10:05 AM Damn that is beautiful! Rufus August 16th, 2012, 03:47 PM There is a stain product called Transtint that I have used on maple necks, then applied Tru Oil over the top. Worked great. I believe the bottle says water based stain but I have applied it with alcohol as well. Never used it on bodies, but no reason why it shouldn't work fine. I have seen it at woodworking stores like Rockler. i MAY have ordered it thru Stew-Mac, can't remember. You're sure to find it online. Transtint comes in multiple shades. Amber is one of them. Another product I have used is the Walnut stain that came in the set of Birchwood Casey products that came with the Tru Oil. Adjust the darkness of stain by diluting with water/alcohol. teletwang67 August 19th, 2012, 01:10 AM I used Minwax Golden Oak and Jacobean on the Strat I built. It's not as dark as the picture but I think it looks better. I don't have any pics yet. |
