Thanks! xjazzy July 27th, 2012, 10:38 AM I think I read somewhere they run paralell and not in series! markxander July 27th, 2012, 11:03 AM I had both of the older versions (silver and red v1s) and it was definitely distortion into overdrive; couldn't say for sure about the current version but I'd be surprised if it was anything different or special. This is the first I've heard about them running in parallel, and I kind of doubt it... 11 Gauge July 28th, 2012, 08:25 AM I think I read somewhere they run paralell and not in series! The V1's are indeed parallel. I repaired a few, because the footswitches tend to tear the circuitboard traces. The first one I ever repaired was a silver model. IDK if/when they went to a "stacking order," because I've never repaired one like that. Either way, if it is the old mechanical style of footswitch, they usually end up needing service when they rip a pcb trace. So it makes sense at that time to put in a switch for stacking order, and obviously to re-wire them to be cascaded in series. VS may have also done this because of their method of "neutral bypass." Running two circuits in series may not work with it. I haven't researched it, but there had to be a reason that VS went with such an unorthodox switching method. What is interesting is that more users don't find it so appealing. After repairing the first one I worked on, I really liked how the TS and Shredmaster combo sounded in parallel, and it was immediately noticeable. I was able to set the distortion of the Hyde side higher than if the two circuits would have been cascaded in series. Of course, that said, I almost always modified the Hyde side to make it smoother, or not so extreme vs. the J side. It seems that most users don't use the Hyde side nearly as much, so it's really common/popular to have the H side modded to be more smooth (and less bass, etc.). But yes - V1's, at least the ones I personally encountered, were all wired in parallel. valvestate July 31st, 2012, 10:33 PM Sorry... don't wanna sound dumb but what does it mean with parallel vs series on Jeckyl and Hyde? I had this and I never bothered thinking about these... |
