Anyone know the size I need, either metric or U.S.? grandstick July 25th, 2012, 10:15 PM It will most likely be 4mm. Take care, Paul oldteleguy July 25th, 2012, 10:47 PM Thanks,Paul sjtalon July 25th, 2012, 11:29 PM 3/16" hex Vizcaster July 27th, 2012, 01:03 PM MIM is 3/16" (Imperial, not metric); Am Std is 1/8" (not as sturdy as the MIM, if you use a long, t-handled allen wrench the wrench for an am std will twist). Most imports are 5mm. Some necks like Musikraft have their own strange size (don't have that figure handy). You could get open-stock t-handle long allen wrenches from Grainger or other tool catalogs. tfsails July 27th, 2012, 04:05 PM I would suggest you get a ball-end Allen wrench (aka hex key) when you get one. It'll let you turn the nut from an off-center position. It's a little more adaptable than a straight Allen wernch. dsutton24 July 27th, 2012, 06:48 PM I would suggest you get a ball-end Allen wrench (aka hex key) when you get one. Stew Mac sells these. Strictly my opinion, but I think ball drivers are a bad idea for truss rod nuts. Many of them (the nuts) are not broached very deeply, and the ball driver doesn't grip the broach as well as a regular straight-sided wrench. If you're the careful type who makes sure that he's got the right wrench, gets things as straight as possible, and knows to apply down pressure as he turns any driving tool, you'll be okay. I know many people like the ball drivers, and have had absolutely no trouble, but I've dug more than one truss rod nut out of a neck that was damaged, and there are times when that's a really tough job. |
