Hey, I just put a new set of ernie ball slinky's on my American standard tele mainly because I had them lying around. I'm looking for some opinions on what kind of strings you guys like. Sometimes I think the fender bullet strings make better (more) contact with the guitar body than a slinky for example. Tell me what you think By the way I play 9's:roll:

For a lot of bending and double stop stuff i do like 9s on teles. On pretty much all other guits 10s.
I also love the David Gilmore sig 9.5s.
On gibbys i use gibby strings and on everything else i use cheapo peavey strings. I more or less sweat acid so after 5-6 hours playing time i need new strings anyway so i use the cheapest i can get. They're not that bad actually.

I like the D'Addario EXL140 set, 10-52 on both Strat and Tele.
Mainly because they've got coloured ends!

What I prefer is D'Addario 10-46's but I'll also use EB 10-46 Slinky's. Some say the D'dads don't last as long but I've had just the opposite experience.

My next go round I'm gonna try some GHS Pure Nickels because I've come to prefer their Bass Strings and I want to give those Nickels a shot to see if they'll warm up the tone just a bit.

Okay, I'll say what no one else is MAN ENOUGH to say: I prefer whichever are on sale at the time I need them. I can't tell the difference between the brands. Given no price advantage, I go for the EB Hybrids for the sizes. Seem to have a bunch of Diadarrio sitting around though. GC multi-pack deals almost always available. They're good...can't remember last one I broke.

The Daddario packaging seems to keep the strings fresher while they are sitting on the shelves in the stores. Sometimes I'll try EBs or Boomers if they are on sale, but when I go to put them on the strings are already half oxidized. So Daddarios it is for me!

I fell in love with the Ernie Ball Cobalt .09's. If I had the money I would buy a set for all 10 of my guitars.

Dean Markley Blue Steel.
Sound the best to me,
last the longest, ( long enough for you to wait for a sale jeff k!)
& break the least.
.09`s if I`m Jimmy Paging it, up to .13`s for Muddy.
Kendrick`s pure nickle are good for certain classic rock applications, but get lost if you`re a fuzz player.

Curt Mangan Pure Nickel 11 - 48 is my go to string, but I keep the same brand and gauge around here in nickel-steel for giggles now and then. I also have a few D'addarios 11 - 48 pure nickel. I do wish Curt would pack his strings in something more green and air-tight.

I know it sounds really weird but, I use to use D'Addario's only... Then a few months ago I wanted to try something different so I tried a set of DR Tite Fits and absolutely loved them. Now any time I pick up any of my guitars that still have the D'Addario's on them the strings feel sticky. I never noticed the feeling until I switched so now I am working on switching everything over to DR Tite Fit .011's

ernie ball hybrid slinky 9-46. gauge doesn't equal tone in my books, but the FEEL of those thicker low strings does it for me

Pure nickel strings, 11s or 12s.

I used DRs for years, but thanks to this forum, I'm back to experimenting with different brands.

i use ghs nickel rocker 11-50 exclusively. these are rollerwound strings and thus have a smoother surface for less finger "skritch" noise when fretting. wish they came in a 12-52 set.

I use both the 10 and 11 sets. Sound and feel better on a Fender than anything else I've tried. Pyramids are my absolute favs but are nearly impossible to get and quite expensive when you can.

I've done plenty of experimenting with size and brands over the years. Nowadays I use DR Pure Blues in .11's. They feel better than anything else I've tried and sound just right to my ears. I know plenty of people don't care for them... but I sure do.

Nowadays I use DR Pure Blues in .11's.

I have these on both my telecasters right now and like them. But I may try something different next time. I want to try using a wound G string, but none of my local music stores carry a set like that, and they look at me like I'm crazy when I ask. At Guitar Center they had some loose individual wound strings, but nothing thin enough to use for a G.

Anybody using wound G's? I saw another thread on this here, but no specific brand recommendations.

I like the D'Addario's 10-46.. But I only use them because a friend said they were the best.... Before that it was Ernie Ball slinky's [10-46 if I remember the gauges correctly]. I think this thread has convinced me to try some others..

Well after digging on their site for awhile, it turns out that Guitar Center does stock a set with a wound G in my local store, even though the sales guy said they didn't. So I just put a set of Dean Markley 2562 Blue Steel Cryogenic Medium's on my 72 thinline and.. WOW, wish I had tried them sooner. It really makes a big difference to my ear, especially with open chords.

I had put GHS Boomers 10's on my american tele for a while.

I decided to try Elixir Nanoweb electric strings (10's also). I am actually very impressed by the elixir's. They last FOREVER! My hands tend to sweat just enough to tarnish most strings very quickly. The elixir's coating protects it immensely. They are more expensive, but I def recommend trying them. They've been lasting me well over 3x as long as others, so the higher price is worth it for me, and more convenient. The box advertises "3.5 times longer" and it's actually true.

Enough sounding like an elixir salesman... No complaints at all on the GHS strings. They give you a very nice traditional tele punch! They sound great and wouldn't hesitate to buy again.

Neither brand breaks easily, so that's a plus. I started with EB slinky 10's and they broke all the time. But I know others have had great success with them, just not me.
