if you are buying a pickup say on ebay and they show that it gets a good reading...say 5.5k just as an example...is this a guarantee that the said pickup will work ?

pickup readingmabley123 July 25th, 2012, 05:39 AM if you are buying a pickup say on ebay and they show that it gets a good reading...say 5.5k just as an example...is this a guarantee that the said pickup will work ? sjtalon July 25th, 2012, 08:09 AM Not necessarily. Who's to say there could be magnet issues, but a person should go by the seller's feedback anyway. You do have buyer protection. Teleterr July 25th, 2012, 09:30 AM ? how can it read normal and not work ? Dan German July 25th, 2012, 09:36 AM What sjtalon said. A resistance reading quoted in an ebay ad says nothing. What is the nominal resistance spec for that particular pickup? I have several pickups where a reading like that would indicate a problem, and others where it would be fine. It's kind of like judging a car's fuel mileage by how far it goes on a tank. Teleterr July 25th, 2012, 10:02 AM i guess a short is possible, tho I've never had one. Usually it fine or open. I would think if its say a '69 CS being sold reading 5.8 then you'd know it was cool. I actually missed the word magnet so I'll agree w that. mabley123 July 25th, 2012, 10:13 AM the 5.5k reading was for a single coil strat pickup and was hypothetical. if the pickup was reading normally and the magnets was degaussed..it could be recharged ? i actually have 3 strat pickups...a 65 and 2 66. all have normal readings and all the people i bought them off of have great feedback. the pickups read. i have 1 66 that measures..6.56k..the next 66 measures...5.96...the 65 measures...5.534 sjtalon July 25th, 2012, 10:16 AM plug 'em in ! Teleterr July 25th, 2012, 10:38 AM Are the '66 beveled ? What did you pay for them all ? I had a set of repos of '65, so I sold my actual. |
