I am a couple months away (hopefully sooner  ) from being able to finish my guitar, but I am just trying to sort everything out before I get to it. I have decided to do this... grain fill with MinWax stain-able water-based wood filler (It says "guaranteed to accept a stain") then use leather dyes, like the ones stewmac carries, that are solluable in water to dye a sunburst. Then I have some clear lacquer from Watco. I just want to know what people have to say about brushing on lacquer, and how to get it a mirror finish. I want this guitar to shine like a brand new corvette. So I would fill, sand, dye (and all the steps accompanied), then brush it on, and sand once, only after the very last coat? I have the option of using a spray gun, but it is a cheap one that I have never used before, so i'd rather brush and have more control. Any input on this!? Thanks in advance
