I am not a gigging musician, in fact the odds are that I will almost always be playing at home, and will probably have little time to even do that, but, I still would like my caseless bass to have a case. I am hesitant about gig bags, although that may be an unfounded opinion - they just came on the scene after I began playing in the 60's. I don't have a a great deal of money, but would like something of reasonably good quality.
thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I have experiece with this TYPE of case. It was for a violin and seemed to be very good protection.

I would go for a hardshell case. That is probably the most common shape/size of bass there is. You should be able to pick up a used one for 50-75 dollars. Less on a good day from craiglist, pawnshiop, music store....

I use the Protec Contego gig bag which is about $125. I have 4 of them which I think says enough for me.
