New Multitracker Day! I bought a fostex MR-8 in working condition for 20 bucks yesterday at an indoor flea market, just needed a good cleaning and the one mic input is broken but that's only a 5 dollar fix. Normally I use my drummer's tascam 2488 but I wanted something for demos and recording at home.
Nice little machine, it's the older one with the bright red shell. The guy wanted 40 but I managed to get him down on the price considering it was missing the power adapter and the mic input needed to be fixed. My drummer had a 12v adapter around from an old digital camera or something (the fostex can run on 6 AA's too)
One of the main gripes that I've seen people have with the MR-8 is that it lacks any type of eq, but that's not a big deal since I mix on Reaper and not on the recorder. It has a built mic that's supposed to be good for quick sketches and ideas, so thats a nice bonus to get late-night demos down quickly.
All in all, pretty good find, would like to know if anyone else has one and has any tips on use. Been using tdpri for a month or so now and just starting to explore the different parts of the forums, so this is my first post on Recording in Progress. Gotta love tdpri, so much more mature and helpful than some of the other forums.
Now to start looking for a decent cassette portastudio...
