I have 3 vintage pickups. 2 1966 and 1 1965.

i have 1 66 that measures..6.56k..the next 66 measures...5.96...the 65 measures...5.534.

what poistions would you put each respective pickup in ?

i know many say to put the more powerful pickup in the bridge ?

but also some say to put the more powerful 1 in the neck and use a lower output in the bridge but raise it up accordingly ? and many feel the lowest k pickup be located in the middle for better quack ??

also i do use the tone control on my amp and guitar...alot.... and i am not worried so much about the ice pick because of that and it will have a .1uf value cap in it as was correct specs for then.

also i have a set of 63 chubtone pickups...2 at .-6.3k-6.8 with el gordo which is overwound at the bridge and i am not worried so much about having an overwound pickup in this position because i will have another guitar built withe the overwound el gordo....and i kind of like the idea of having the higher output pickup in the neck position.

but i am open to suggestions.

thanks in advance

I have always wondered if the highest output Strat pickup shouldn't be in the middle since that pickup is always set the lowest height wise (at least on my guitars.)

As far as DC resistance, that little bit of variance really won't matter much. Agree that the "stronger" or one that would apear to be that, would go in the bridge.

The thing you don't know is magnet strength of each, which plays a big (or should I say HUGE) part in it as well.

I loaded my stratocaster with custom shop pick ups. Each a different kind. The most powerful is the 69 in the neck at a whopping 5.9k. Second is the fat 50's in the middle... 6.5k. The weakest is the 54 in the bridge.. 6.5k. Maybe I should switch the bridge and the middle.

To clays post if you like to lower your pick up to get that quack, seems to me that if you put a more powerful pick up in that location that you would have to lower it even further

I don't lower the middle pickup to get quack, I lower it to get it out of the way.

I have 2 identical Gibson HBs that measure the same (maybe 20 ohms different). One is sweet and smooth one is slightly harsh w a little bite.Try each in your favorite position then pick the one that sounds best, then the remaining 2 in your second fav.
