What happened to the VG Strat ?

I'm seriously GASing for a VG, being that one of the two bands I'm in is a cover band, the possibilities of the VG are really appealing to me. Apparently, Fender does not manufacture them anymore. I don't quite understand this. I would think they would have more of them than, say, the Robert Cray signature or the Wayne Kramer signature. Apparently, I'm wrong. Any insight ? Anybody has one and wants to share their feelings about them ?

Just google VG Strat and you'll find all you need to know. I have the original version and love it. Open tunings and acoustic 12 string are my favorite settings. The new model is MIM and costs a bit less, but seriously just Google it.

I think I'll save and get me one off the bay... How do you like the sounds ? I wish they had a half step down tuning instead of the DADGAD.

I don't have the VG Strat but I recently picked up a spotless 2000 RR Strat and an equally clean VG-8EX for a steal and it is more versatile than the newer VG Strat is by itself. The VG Strat for whatever reason, has no 13 pin output which would have been nice and made it a lot more flexible. My .02Cdn.

Mmmmh... I might have found my answer on youtube ( I know, hard to believe that a perfectly decent, non-trolling comment could be made on youtube, but I think I've found one... ) Here it goes : "You can't find those guitars anywhere anymore because those bells and whistles never worked correctly after long. I did demo one at a guitar center and I asked the salesman about them malfunctioning and he's like, "Well, at least you still got a perfectly good strat" and I'm like Oh!Great, then you can perhaps drop the price from $1800 to $900?"

So, maybe they just weren't that good... Sounded nice on paper...

Good digging. I have been wondering about that very issue of how long the electronics package would live under gigging conditions...not long I guess if it started to crap out while still in the store. I think that although the rig I recently bought is outdated, having the "guts" outboard of the guitar make for greater longevity and the RR Strat can be used with any GR/VG setup. Like you said, it looked good on paper.

I just recieved mine on Tuesday. It's a black 07 and I love it! It came with a custom black guard for it to. It was dirt cheap on ebay and it has a Clapton vibe to it. Roland now makes it solely I believe it's the VG-5 and it does more than the earlier models. It has a sitar sound and does more withy he tele and humbucker tones. There are view on YouTube for them.

Here's mine.

I so want one !!! How's the sound ? I'm afraid of it sounding too "fake", digital...
Apparently, the batteries only last 6 hours... Is that true ? If so, It's a big problem. I play 4-hour gigs...
