I am having a Partscaster Strat copy built. The pickups I have chosen are Lace Sensors Red bridge, Silver middle, Blue neck. I play mostly country with a tele but I'm building this for southern & classic rock. I heard nothing but good things about the blue pickups and silvers are ok. My friend tells me The reds are too hot with no tone. Someone give me your take on these pickups. I mostly play a strat in the second position or the neck.

The reds have tone. They just sound kinda like humbuckers. My favorite Lace Sensor is the Purple, you should look into that one. It's beautifully balanced. I know it's cheaper to buy them as a set, but you might want to find some used ones and just mix and match ones with relatively similar output. But there's also a set with Emerald, Purple, and another that I can't recall at the moment, and that one looks interesting too, and would most like suit the style you are after.

Thanks for the input. I will try the red, silver, blue combo first. If I don't like it I can sell or trade. Its hard to tell by the youtube (combination of crappy speakers and the distortion). Or I have another strat body lying around. I may just have to build another. Lol!

In my pursuit of pickups, I have noticed that lace p'ups are rarely sold used. Either people don't want to buy and take the chance on them or love them and keep them.
