charlie chitlin July 22nd, 2012, 01:01 PM I discovered Carl Perkins a LONG time ago through the album he did with NRBQ. I got WAY into him...really studied his stuff, played it live, saw him live several times...he was a genius and a giant.
Such a shame that he missed the boat on big-time fame.
But he earned his immortality, which is an amazing thing.
Every now and then when things get rock and roll at a gig, I put my index finger on the 2nd string and slide my pinky up the 3rd string to get the same note, and send a little thank you out to Carl.
fezz parka July 22nd, 2012, 01:01 PM Carl could write, sing, and play. Triple Crown!
Daddy Hojo July 22nd, 2012, 01:07 PM Is Carl rockin' a Peavey in that clip?
Mark Davis July 22nd, 2012, 01:10 PM Everyone took some licks from Carl Perkins. He was Harrisons idol for sure you can hear it all over the place in Harrisons stuff.
Carl was one of those gus that didnt seek fame he just sorta layed low and just played.
As an example Carl wrote Blue Suede Shoes but most people associate that song with Elvis.
"Blue Suede Shoes" is a rock and roll standard written and first recorded by Carl Perkins in 1955 and is considered one of the first rockabilly (rock and roll) records and incorporated elements of blues, country and pop music of the time. The song was notably covered by Elvis Presley.

I think Carl is playing an ES-5 switchmaster. Looks so cool.

I always suspected that Carl had a deal with Peavey.
Maybe he was just a free spirit and he liked them.
He did make some odd musical choices in his life...not the least of which being his choice of band members...maybe guitars, too.

I remember that one from that 60th Birthday show for Chuck.
I love all those songs from the mid 50's.
The kids just went nuts and for a good reason that music rocked.

T-27. His is a special edition with rosewood. I've got one. Killer guitar.
Dan R July 23rd, 2012, 06:34 PM Carl Perkins was a great talent. As great as Cash or even Elvis. He just didn't hit it big like they did. That echo effect is unreal. Innovative, don't you think?
I think Peavey had a big push in the 70's and early 80's to make their products visible on TV. On Hee Haw and other shows, Peavey amps, basses and guitars were seen frequently. Peavey wanted to get on the map in those days and they did, to a certain degree. Two of my friends owned Peavey guitars and amps back then. That Peavy guitar is pretty cool.

csadams5 July 23rd, 2012, 07:31 PM Now I have to go spend an evening watching Call Perkins clips. I just got done doing that with Roy Clark the other day. Love the clips.
Telemarkman July 24th, 2012, 03:17 AM Carl Perkins was a great talent. As great as Cash or even Elvis. He just didn't hit it big like they did.
Musically, he was probably (certainly) a greater talent than Elvis ... Elvis had the looks, the voice and the hips though.
Breen July 24th, 2012, 05:03 AM Good golly that was the pinnacle I've seen or heard Carl pick. Never really realized. Thanks Mark!
