How does he do it? Is it Octaves or Unison or Drone?

You mean when the song starts or all the ad lib stuff before that?

When the song riff starts, it sounds and looks to me like he's playing:

Low E note > x7xxxx > x54xxx > x4222x > 022100

I think he means up to 1:53.

I think he's playing octaves here and there, but I'm not sure. Great playing though.

Yes, there are octaves, fourths and fifths in that section. Sometimes the high E drones, too, it sounds like to me.

jbmando, I'm not sure if you're familiar with the original. It's GREAT! Hudson plays the organ. I believe the intro had a special name... something like 'Organic' or something. I love the Campbell intro because it's a proper adaptation. Faithful to the original only to the right extent.

I am not familiar with the original. I remember it by Three Dog Night. I believe it was the B side to "One." I was not a big The Band fan in my formative years. I really thought that most of their stuff sounded lame and or sloppy.

Yes it's Garth's intro on the organ. Campbell plays it on the guitar. It sounds very modal to me.

I just listened to the original intro. Sounds pretty much like how Jon Lord (RIP) would have done it. Pretty cool.

I never knew Three Dog Night covered it! I just listened to that... it's excellent. I'm not a fan of the fuzzy guitar sound, but I loved the bass!

It took me a while to get into The Band... I almost forced myself because of the Dylan association. Same thing happened with the Grateful Dead. But now, both The Band and the Grateful Dead make it to my top 5 all time favourite bands.

It's called The Genetic Method. In live shows Garth would stretch it out for several minutes sometimes. When I saw Levon (RIP) back in March they played it, one of my favorite parts of the show.
