(Maybe) A Dumb Pedal Question

Looking for a pedal that will get me a dirty blues sound. I am trying to learn SRV type songs and I know I won't be able to replicate his sound, but if I could get in the neighborhood that would be a great start.
I play a Tele and a Strat, both have humbuckers in the bridge. My amps are a Champion 600 and a Vox Pathfinder 15R and I play strictly at home. I know there are a lot of pedals out there, but don't know if there are ones that are better suited for a tube amp vs. solid state. It would be nice to have one that would play well with either amp. I shop almost exclusively at GC and want to go in there with some sort of knowledge and not be totally at their mercy. :oops:

A tubescreamer and a cranked tube amp(mostly fenders) is SRV.

Hi Jim, a Digitech Bad Monkey (Tubescreamer-type overdrivepedal) would be a good start imho! It sounds great for what you want and is totally inexpensive. And remember to use your neck pickup for that typical SRV thing.

I have Pathfinder 15R and a Biyang 'Tube Screamer clone,' and with the Pathfinder's Gain at 11 clock (Boost OFF) volume UP, and the 'Tube Screamer' at low Drive and higher Volume this really gooses the PF into overdrive for a great SRV lead tone with great sustain-I was quite surprised at how good everything sounded with the PF! I play Fender amps, and it just seems that the little Vox just has that slightly hotter Gain running and aggressive tone running thru, so when you push it with an OD, this sucker turns into a pit bull. PLenty of volume and the low end does not fall apart. just keep those Gains low so things don't get too gritty-

Try the Boss SD-1 as well. It is similar to a TS, but has asymmetrical clipping and I don't know which will sound better with a solid state amp.

You may want to keep your eye out for a pedal that clips in a way you like it at low volumes. What I'm trying to say is, SRV tone to me is a TS type pedal with the drive down low and the level up, boosting the signal with not alot of clipping from the pedal, but overloading the front end of a large Fender tube amp that's already LOUD. The sound occurs at volume levels not possible if you're a bedroom player.
