By Dan Erlewine. Does anyone own this book? If so would you recommed it?

Can't recommend it enough. Lotsa stuff in there. If I could have only one book on setting up, maintaining, and repairing guitars, this would be it.

I have it. Love it. A lot of the questions I see asked here are answered in that book and a whole lot more. To me it's nice to have something I can lay on the work bench to refer to. I've got a laptop in my shop and maybe I'm just to old school but books still seem faster to me. If you got a barns and noble or books a million it might pay you to look there. I got mine on sale for $7.95.

I saw it at Barnes and Noble but didn't get a chance to look at it. You guys told me exactly what I wanted to hear Hopefully I can find a deal like you did!

I also like The Players Guide to Guitar Maintenance by Dave Burrlock. It's rather simple but a great overview, especially when starting out. I still refer back to it from time to time.

I'll have to check that one out too. Ive always been really interested in learning how to setup my own guitar so I won't have to pay someone $50 everytime ... or $75 everytime I decide to change string gauge on a floyd rose lol.

Get it!

The bit on installing a Hipshot Trem-Setter was worth the price of the book.

I bought it and find it horribly written as he weaves in and out of topics too much. He needed a good "ghost" writer, imho. I'm sure the guy is a genius, but the book appears scattered to me.

It's a terrific book and I've recommended it many times to many people.

It's not meant to be a novel with a consistent storyline, it's just a reference book packed with an amazing amount of knowledge and information.

My copy is old from the 90's; the current one (that comes with a DVD) is the 3rd edition. It's probably time I upgraded.

His "How to make your electric guitar play great" is a good one to for beginners also. Dans the man. I also like how he gives you actual measurements from Famous guitar players so you can see how different everybody is in what they like.
