G&L Questions

Hello, I have a question or two about a G&L Classic Tribute Tele (Indonesia).
Will American made parts interchange without drilling, cutting etc.? Like the tuners for one. Does anyone know if the pots are the same as American made as in resistance values etc.? Thanks for any tolerance of my seemingly dumb questions:mrgreen: Shane

Not sure about the tuners. The US models had Schallers with a single anti-rotate pin and no screws in the back of the headstock.

The pots were the same value, but the Tributes had the smaller threaded bushing and different knobs. Some of the earliest ones had a bad batch of pots and when G&L sent my friend replacement CTS pots they also came with the correct knobs...I don't remember if it was because the Tribute pot shafts were 6mm instead of 1/4" or if they were split shaft pots and the US models have solid shafts. Either way, I had to slightly enlarge the two holes in the Tribute control plate to put the new pots in for him.

Hey Shane!

Good questions, not dumb ones.

I start from the default position that the USA and Tribute parts do not interchange. The dimensions of the heel and neck pocket are not even close enough and every effort to match a USA body to an overseas neck, etc., I've personally seen was a mess. The only parts close enough in dimensions I have any degree of confidence in switching, is the dimensions/mount points of the pickups themselves, possibly the saddles in the bridge in some cases. Everything else is a case by case basis, less than 50% probability of a nice result.

Bear little things like this in mind: the value of a pot may be the same, but the source is so different the pot feels and seems to function differently. I think they seriously revised some of the schematics when the design was translated from G + L to Cor-tek. On the T types, the jack design is way different.

Thank you for the information guys. I haven't even gotten the guitar yet but it will soon be on the way. I just hope that i am happy with it just the way it is and from what i'm reading (reviews etc) it should be just fine. I have played for many years but no longer gig. I will just use this guitar for some home recording and simply picking around the house kind of thing.
